Paul Buckby

Paul Buckby is a versatile artist with more than 25 years' experience in the South African entertainment industry, having excelled as actor, singer, songwriter, television presenter and media personality, and appearing extensively as Master of Ceremonies.

After having worked in musical theatre for 10 years, performing in productions like ‘Joseph’, ‘Grease’ and ‘Summer Holiday’, Paul's career was ignited by a performance on ‘Miss World 1992’, where he sang to 400 million people viewers in a production which involved the talents of Jean Michelle Jarre, and coincided with the launch of the Lost City.

He then worked extensively for Mnet, presenting on productions like ‘Bon Voyage’, ‘Shop-a-Mania’, ‘RCI Summer Festivals’, Mnet’s ‘Film Awards’ and ‘Front Row’.  As a television journalist, he has interviewed the likes of The Hollies, Liam Neeson, Aidan Quinn, Stephen Rae, Neil Jordan, Kinky Freedman and other international celebrities.

Paul starred in numerous SABC productions, including ‘Where Angels Tread’, ‘The Syndicate’, ‘Kalebone’ and Homeland, for which he received an NTVA award nomination for Best Actor. He also co-hosted ‘Win and Spin’ for SABC 2, and presented SABC3's ‘The Motoring Show’. For nearly four years, he relished the part of the notorious ‘Simon Roussow’ in SABC1’s ‘Generations’. He is also well-known for his role as Dr Adam Fischer on the M-Net soap opera Egoli: Place of Gold. In 2008 he starred in a 42 town NOOT VIR NOOT roadshow.

Paul has been Master of Ceremonies for many events and corporate functions from ‘Miss South Africa' to the President’s Techno Awards. He is also a qualified auctioneer, having received his auctioneering diploma in 2004.

As a singer, he released his first single in 1988 with Mountain Records, and his second album, 'A Moment's Born' with Vonk Musiek, containing mostly original compositions, many of which use Afrikaans lyrics.  Paul has also performed at a range of corporate functions and public concerts over the years.
