Melanie Lowe
Location: Based in JohannesburgBiography

Popular singer-songwriter Melanie Lowe stormed onto the South African music scene in 2002, when she reached the semi-finals of the first series of South African Idols, and has been in demand as a performing and recording artist ever since.
Performance highlights include being an opening act for the Westlife concert in Durban, and supporting Belgian artist, Sarah Bettens (ex K’s choice) on a nationwide tour, along with Stealing Love Jones. Melanie was also the support act for the sell-out Katie Melua’s South African tour in September 2008. With one South African Music Award already under her belt, Melanie was nominated again for a SAMA in 2008 in the “Best english adult contemporary album” category alongside artists such as Louise Carver, Karen Zoid, Freshly Ground and Flat Stanley.
Drawing directly from her own life experiences, Melanie’s Jazz and Blues infused songs are soul-barring, emotionally driven and often heart-rending. Her debut album Yesterday’s Diary has been a top seller, and her two subsequent albums, a 12-track English album called Unspoken Truth and a 5 track Afrikaans single called As, have enjoyed similarly success. Her songs are played on major radio stations throughout SA, with As being a hit on the Afrikaans waves of amongst others, RSG, Ofm and Overvaal stereo, while her single Sweetest of Rhymes reached number one on various stations around the country, and was chosen as the official song for SABC2’s women’s month feature. She has made four music videos, which enjoy regular airplay
Melanie’s versatile show features her favourite songs and hits, all from her own pen. She can offer anything from an unplugged set with one or two musicians, to a show with a fully fledged band (Melanie plus drums, bass, keyboard, saxophone and guitar), and can call on local bands in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban.
