SYLVAIN PARFAIT BALOUBETA
Sylvainn was born in 1975 in Brazzaville, and cites one of the most precious gifts he received from his religious family being the gift and legacy of Music. At ten he started learning the guitar, playing and singing in the church band. At fifteen he created and led Etoile de Matin (Morning Star) which performed original music, mostly his own compositions. At this point he started participating in competitions and festivals, some of which were organized by the French Cultural Center, including:
- National Festival of Peace (International Red Cross)
- Francophony Celebrations
- Fespaco 1996
- Fespam 1997 & 2003
- FRI Musique du Monde
- Academie Schloss Solitude
- Bourse Unesco-Aschebert
- Visa Francophone de Rouerge
In 1997 he was inspired to take up bass guitar by the music of Etienne Mbape and Marthe Linley. The end of 1997 saw the exodus of many musicians from his country, as civil war caused the collapse of formal institutions of Arts and Culture. He stayed on working and performing until 2004, when he finally headed for South Africa.
