As a diva of Jazz, Soul, Funk and R&B, Jennifer Jones is truly one of South Africa’s most iconic female singers. With over 25 years in the industry, her star-studded career sparkles with accolades including a Grammy nomination, an NTVA Stone Awardand a Kora Award for most promising female artist as well as collaborations with the likes of Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, M People and Dr Alban.Jones’ versatility in languages and musical genres has allowed her enormous success internationally, with performances in Morocco, Egypt, Italy, China, England, Scotland and Seychelles to name but a few and in 1996, Jones became the first-ever South African artist to be signed by an international recording agency (Sony Music).
Besides international collaborations, Jones has also performed with the cream of the South African music industry, including Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Dozi, Kurt Darren, Brandon October, Mynie Grove’ and Vicky Sampson. Her most notable live performances with worldwide television broadcasting include; during the Rugby World Cup of 1995, singingWhere the World Began;in 2000/2001 during the World Aids Day concert and conference singing: The Future Ain’t What it Used To Be. Locally televised performances include: at the inauguration of both Presidents Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki; at President Nelson Mandela’s birthday and at The Heroes show, hosted by Drum, You and Huisgenoot magazines. She has also featured an impressive 6 times at Skouspel, the biggest Afrikaans event on the African continent, as well as at KaapseJol in 2006.
Jones has appeared and performed on various television talk shows, such as The Jerry Springer Show, Dis Hoe Dit Is Met Steve(Steve Hofmeyer). Kom‘nbietjiebinne (Dozi), Kwela (Coenie De Villiers). NootVirNoot (Johan Stemmert), The Felicia Mabuza-SuttleTalk Show, DKNT andPasella. Furtermore, her illustrious singing career has also earned her the position of “judge” for various national talent competitions, such as Zing, Afrikaans Idols and Die KaapseJolTienerKompetisie, 2007 as well as coach on the Patricia Lewis, SABC 2 talent show, Supersterre 2007.
Jones social involvement is also extensive and noteworthy. After performing in India for South African Tourism, Jones was nominated as, and remains, India’s Ambassador to South Africa. She is actively involved in organizations like The Tomorrow Trustand charity organizations involving AIDS orphans and other underprivileged children as well as being Guardian for the Robert Kerr trust for children in need of cochlear hearing implants.
Jones debut album “Slow Down”, which coincidentally reached the number two slot on the South African Top 40 Charts, is soon to be followed by a second release.
