Biography

Ernie Smith is a multi-award winning South African singer who has taken his unique mix of Jazz,  Afro-pop, Gospel and R&B sounds across the world.

Ernie has released 5 highly acclaimed albums.  His first, “Child of the Light” (2001) was followed by “Lovely Things” which exposed the star to a younger Rnb/Jazz audience; both releases received multiple awards. In 2005 he collaborated with Grammy award Nominee Jonathan Butler on the album “My African Heart”, which also features Grammy award winner Kirk Whallum, while his self-produced fourth Album, “Everything Around Me”, released in 2008, sparked significant international interest, resulting in extensive touring and performances across the world. This Album is flavoured with Jazz and African pop overtones and the unmistakeable Ernie “Love Song” touch.

Ernie’s fifth release (and his first Gospel album) “Blessed Man” followed in 2009, featuring the likes of Jonathan Butler, John Ellis, Janine Price, Neville D, Imelda Wroots, Arlington Jones, Swazi Dlamini, Tshepo Mngoma, Songs and Psalms and more. This album catapulted Ernie into the local gospel scene, with numerous church and gospel performances in Kwazulu-Natal and beyond as a result.

Other high profile artists Ernie has recorded with, include Gospel heavyweight, Bebe Winans, his produced South African legend Tshepo Tshola, as well as Kwaito star Mandoza and up and coming artists such as, jazz singer Natalie R and Jarques Blaaw.
