Biography

Popular singer, actor and producer Emo Adams is a multi-talented marvel of crooning and comedy alike.

He first came to prominence through his collaborations with David Kramer and the late Taliep Pietersen, specifically in the musicals “District 6: The Musical” and “Kat & the Kings”, and has since gone on to become one of SA's busiest entertainers, headlining at most of SA's major festivals and concerts, featuring in all mainstream media, selling out shows across the country, and hosting his own television show “Jou Show Met Emo”.

Born and raised in the heart of the Cape Flats, Mitchells Plein, Adams is the younger sibling of three boys. His childhood years were filled with harmonies and song; an infectious influence by his musically-inclined father and talented elder brother, fellow actor Luqmaan Adams.  Much of his childhood years were spent singing and performing with the Malay Choirs, which enabled Adams to explore his cultural heritage and establish music as an integral part of his life.  At the age of 9, Adams was cast to play the role of a homeless street child in Pietersen and Kramer's renowned theatre production “District 6: The Musical”, and experience which sparked his love for theatre and the performing arts.  In 1996, Emo, along with three friends and his brother Luqmaan, founded the 5-piece boy band JAG, soon becoming popular around SA for their perfect harmonies and entertaining live performances.

Other theatre highlights include being re-cast in "District 6: The Musical" on several occasions (and has actually played every character in this production!), and performing in London, Vienna, Frankfurt and Las Vegas with the Lawrence-Olivier-award-winning production “Kat and The Kings.”  In the Bollywood production “Fusion”, which was staged at the Globe Theatre in Johannesburg in 2006, Adams performed Indian song and dance in a traditional Bollywood style.

In television, Emo played a lead role in the kykNET television series “Alie Barber” as well as the part of Solly in the SABC2 mini-series “Malan en Kie”; he made guest appearances on the musical game show “Liriekeraai” and was an invitee on the talk show “Dis Hoe Dit Is Met Steve”, hosted by Steve Hofmeyr, as well as numerous other South African primetime television shows.  His own television show “Jou Show Met Emo” is a successful celebration of comedy and looks at the lighter side of life in South Africa.

Emo's debut album "Tall, Dark & Afrikaans", released in 2007, is a top-seller across South Africa, and Emo recently launched his own frangrance and merchandice lines.
