Dr Victor & the Rasta Rebels

Dr Victor and the Rasta Rebels is a household name, and one of the busiest live bands in South Africa, headlining at various festivals and corporate events all over the African continent for more than 20 years. The band is headed up by the multiple SAMA-winning Dr. Vic (Victor Khojane) who has crafted and created the band's uplifting and up-tempo sound, which has earned this singer, musician, songwriter and producer an enviable reputation in the South African music scene.

Influenced by South African bands and artists such as Blondie and Papa, Harare, Jonathan Butler and the Jackson Five, Dr Victor and the Rasta Rebels have performed with various high-profile South African acts such as Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Ricardo, Chicco Twala and Lucky Dube.  Dr Vic himself has taken coveted opening act slots for international acts such as Paul Simon, Tina Turner, Gloria Estefan and Janet Jackson, and he also performed at MIDEM in France.

Best known for their renditions of Eddy Grant’s "Give Me Hope Jo’Anna" and "I Don’t Want To Dance" in the early nineties, Dr Victor and the Rasta Rebels released 3 albums in the 90's, the last of which was The Best Of The Rasta Rebels featuring one unreleased song, "I Love To Truck."

The past decade has seen numerous award-winning hit releases, including Sunshine Daze in 2003, which won the SAMA for Best Dance Album, while 2004 saw the release of “If You Wanna Be Happy” which shot to all the charts within the first few weeks of its release.  In 2006 Dr Victor & The Rasta Rebels released a 14 track album titled When Somebody loves you back with hit singles like My Number 1, Man Smart and other funky tunes which stayed on the S.A Radio charts for several weeks. 

In 2010 the band released their Greatest Hits album and recorded their first live DVD Dr Victor & The Rasta Rebels-Live at Emperors Palace, which was nominated for a SAMA Award in 2011.  In celebration of the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup, Dr Victor featured on Dr Albans remix of the hit remix Hello Afrika (Tell Me How You're Doing).
