Darren Simpson

Darren Simpson, the host of 94.7 Highveld Stereo's Breakfast Xpress (previously known as The Rude Awakening), is famous for his hillarious on-air pranks, as well as co-starring in the hidden camera MNet show Laugh Out Loud and presenting Clipz.

From presenting his hugely popular “Whackhead” pranks and driving the breakfast show, to performing stand up in front crowds of thousands, Darren has the charisma to have any audience eating out of of his hands.  He has played to a 6 100 sell out crowd at Carnival City Casino doing stand-up comedy and MC’ing the event. He was also the host of the acclaimed 46664 “It’s no Joke” comedy shows which played to full houses at the Sun City Superbowl and the Sandton Convention Centre.

Apart from his presenting on MNet, he has also enjoyed appearances on SABC3’s Comedy Showcase, SABC1’s Pure Monate as a sketch actor, The Late Show with Darren Scott, and Prankz, all on M-Net.  He has pranked various South African celebrities, including Ryk Neethling, Ernie Els, Pik Botha, Kurt Darren, and many more, as well as unsuspecting international people and media, a highlight being when Darren famously fooled an Australian radio duo on 2Day FM into thinking they are interviewing Tom Cruise!

Darren has released 6 CDs showcasing the best of his “Whackhead Pranks” all of which have reached gold (20 000 copies sold) or platinum (60 000 copies).
