Biography

With a wealth of chart-topping hits, award-winning albums and top ten singles to his name, Danny K is a household name in South Africa, with a far-reaching fan base and a stage personality to match.

Danny K's self-titled first release dates back more than a decade (it was released in 2000), and was followed by 'J23' (2003) and 'This Is My Time' (2006), both of which delivered numerous radio hits and earned Danny a string of accolades including the 2007 South African Music Award for Best Pop Album. His latest, 'Across The Line' (2010), aptly represents the artist's development from the "smooth R&B tones and high notes of the past" to the "rough-edged vocals" and "electro-rock" styles he has been known to favour in recent years.  He has also collaborated with numerous artists, amongst whom have been Mandoza and Ali Campbel (ex UB40).

Danny K's achievements and accolades are too numerous to mention.  He has shared stages and double billed with the likes of Usher, Craig David, Puff Daddy, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Eric Benet, Bob Geldof, U2, Queen, Beyonce, Ludacris, Will Smith, Annie Lennox, Christina Aguilera, Deborah Cox, Dianna Ross, Seal, Michael Bolton, Celine Dion, Akon, Elton John, Jonathan Butler, Maria Carey and the Grammy Award Winning Soweto Gospel Choir.  Danny was also the first South African musician to perform on the legendary Oprah Winfrey Show in Chicago, sharing the episode with Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, Josh Groban and John Travolta.

Danny, a Wits University and Wits Business School graduate with 2 degrees in Law and Business Administration, is also a sought-after writer and producer who has established his own Record, Production, Publishing and Management Companies. He has written and produced songs for some of South Africa’s biggest artists such as 101, Jamali, TK, Kabelo, Mandoza and RJ Benjamin.

Danny K has done extensive charity and social work for many worthy causes in South Africa, eg performing in front of over 30 000 underprivileged kids for Nelson Mandela and Oprah Winfrey at Mr. Mandela’s annual Birthday party in Qunu in the Transkei.  Danny is a patron of Reach For A Dream, The Smile Foundation, a Life Champion for Life College of Africa, “a friend” of UNICEF as well as being “the face” of 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Child Abuse in 2007 and many other worthy causes.
