Barcode is a group of dynamic professional musicians who have joined forces to celebrate their South African heritage through music, covering a diverse blend of music featuring South African favorites and African inspired originals. Their striking image embodies style and elegance and plays on the strong contrasts within the band, while their easily recognizable repertoire and upbeat performance adds South African flair and flavour to any party or event.
This proudly South African collaboration consists of Lindiwe Maxolo on Vocals; Olivia van Gass and Reabetswe Ngoasheng on Black & White Electric Violins; Brendan Jury on DJ/live tracks, keys and Electric Viola and option of live drumming with Jerome Reynard on Drums, all of whom have vast experience in the corporate entertainment world. They all come from different backgrounds, both musically and culturally and are having fun exploring and playing a wide variety of music together.
In addition to their original songs, they have taken popular songs from the past few decades and blended them into a set of music guaranteed to entertain a diverse audience. With upbeat tracks such as “Ndihamba Nawe” (Mafikizolo); “Destiny” (Malaika); and “I Love Music” (Lebo Mathosa); SA favourites “Vulindlela”, “Weekend Special” (Brenda Fassie) and “Pata Pata” (Miriam Makeba); and the World Cup hit song “Waka Waka”(Shakira), the music is up-tempo and fun, crossing styles such as House, Dance and Kwaito. The music combines African sounds with catchy melodic and percussive loops, deep bass lines and catchy rhythms and harmonies blended together with beautiful string lines, keys and sultry vocals.
