Albert Horne

Albert Horne is a pianist, chorus master and conductor, and is currently employed as Chorus Master and Music Assistant for Cape Town Opera.
He obtained his Master’s Degree in Repetiteur Studies with distinction at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, studying conducting with Sian Edwards and repetiteur studies with Clive Timms and Roy Laughlin. In 2007 he conducted Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess at the Kijani Festival in Kenya, and conducted some performances of Kern’s Show Boat in Nürnberg and Oslo in 2005.
He was appointed as repetiteur and rehearsal pianist at the Opera School of the University of Cape Town in 1999, and graduated from UCT with a BMus Honours in Vocal Accompaniment in 2003. He was subsequently employed by Cape Town Opera as repetiteur.
He often performs on the concert stage as accompanist and musical director to numerous local and international singers, in genres ranging from Opera, Lieder, Jazz, Musical Theatre and Popular Music. He has also performed in Germany, Malaysia, Namibia, Botswana, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Sweden and Norway.
He was Chorus Master for CTO’s production of Porgy & Bess at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Den Norske Oper in Oslo in 2008, and was recently guest Chorus Master for the NorrlandsOperan production of Britten’s Peter Grimes in Umeå, Sweden. In Cape Town he has been responsible for preparing the choruses for Die Zauberflöte, Manon, Poet & Prophetess, Rigoletto, Aida and Madama Butterfly.
